Breaking Free From The Grasshopper Mentality – HTC Outing Recap

On Saturday, February 19, Holiness Tabernacle was invited to celebrate with Holy Communion COGIC in their 13th Church Anniversary in Hampton, Virginia. Not only did the world’s greatest choir – the HTC Gospel Choir – minister to the people in song, the people of God ministered to the church through their sacrificial giving.

The speaker for the hour was our very own, Minister Eugene C. McCown. This man of God, his wife, Sister Yolinda McCown, and their 4 children serve faithfully under Pastor Eddie B. Pruitte. Minister McCown’s topic was “Breaking Free from the Grasshopper Mentality” and the scripture reference was Numbers 13:33. Using “Antz” [and “A Bug’s Life”] as analogy, he pointed out that the ants were hard workers that stored food for themselves and for the idle, grotesque grasshoppers. In the message, Minister McCown pointed out that the grasshopper is lazy, easily tossed to and fro, makes unnecessary noise and the list goes on. He encouraged the saints to be an unhidden light to the world (Matthew 5:14, 16), to be separate from sin (2 Corinthians 6:17), not easily persuaded of anything (Ephesians 4:14), and not to think of ourselves like grasshoppers when faced with a ‘giant’ situation (Numbers 13:33); thereafter, when we do all these things we will be blessed.

After all the ‘faxes’ from heaven and before Minister McCown took his seat, he implored the saints to “Break Free from the Grasshopper Mentality” so that we can receive what God has in store for us. Everyone was blessed by the message! After altar call, Holy Communion blessed HTC and Pastor and we fellowshipped and broke bread together. It is good to be blessing and to receive a blessing! What a time we had blessing the Lord together!
