HTC Men’s Annual Day: God’s Mission is Possible!

“Your mission, should you choose to accept it…”

No, you haven’t stepped into the latest Mission Impossible scene – but rather the sanctuary of Holiness Tabernacle where on July 8 the Men’s Department celebrated its annual Men’s Day with the theme, “God’s Mission: Possible!”  The men of HTC came in full force, dispelling the myth that real men don’t know how to worship and magnify God.

“We thank you Lord that not all men are low down as some might say,” exclaimed Pastor Pruitte as he opened the service with prayer at the front altar. “There are some saved men here with us today!”

Minister Powell, chairman of the Men’s Day service, led the call to worship followed by scripture readings by Deacon Moses and Brother Abney and the invocation by Brother Howard.

When it was time for praise and worship, everyone was on their feet – men included – as the male-led praise team of Brother Benjamin, Deacon Paxton and Deacon Howard, ushered in a season of praise unto God with “Lion of Judah,” and “We Lift Your Name on High.”

Elder Green welcomed and thanked the visiting pastor, Elder Walter Harold, and the entire Sheepgate COGIC for joining the celebration. In response, Holiness Tabernacle was greeted with a joyful rendition of “Praise the Lord, Everybody!” and once again, the entire house was clapping their hands and stomping their feet.

All of a sudden, the church was transported to “The Briefing” as Elder Mabry explained the mission and challenge for the men.

“On June 10, 2012 at 1300 hours, we received intelligence that the world’s leaders are failing to properly serve at the posts entrusted to them,” he began as the Mission Impossible theme music played softly in the background.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything the Lord has commanded you,” Elder Mabry continued in earnest. “If the task seems too great for you to handle, do not fret men of God.  Just remain steadfast and unmovable, always abounding in the word of God!”

Armed with the challenge to become and disciple godly leaders, Deacon Howard brought an inspirational message on “Thoughts of a Leader” and extolled the attributes of Bishop Ted G. Thomas, Sr., jurisdictional prelate of the First Jurisdiction of Virginia.

“Good leaders lead by example, love the church and support others in ministry, and motivate people to go beyond their perceived abilities,” declared Deacon Howard. “These are all qualities that we find in our own, Bishop Thomas.”

Next, Minister Powell came with words of reflection and shared his testimony of how God taught him a lesson on patience. “As I learned to wait on God, He blessed me to pass my certification exam, He blessed me with a house, He blessed me with a new job and He blessed me with a new fiancé!” he beamed, encouraging others to put their trust in the Lord.

When it came time to worship in giving, the men of God did not slack in their responsibilities. They heartily marched the aisle, giving liberally to the work of the Kingdom. The women also showed their support through giving.

Under the direction of Deacon Paxton, the Men’s Chorus sang a sermonic selection to the glory of God: “If I was just anybody I’d say, it’s all good,” the men sang with clear voices. “But I know better, it’s all God!”

Newly installed Pastor Walter H. Harold brought a mighty Word to the men and people of God entitled, “Can I Get a Lift?” Coming from Mark 2:1-12, he shared the story of the four men who lowered their friend with palsy, down through the roof of a house, just so that he could get to Jesus.

“Sometimes, you have to put other’s needs ahead of your own – and trust that God will bless you in the process,” admonished Pastor Harold. He went on to remind the saints that the strong are to bear the infirmities of the weak.

“How can we say we love God who we don’t see, but not love our brother who we do see?” he asked the church. In full agreement, the people of God recommitted themselves to the task that God had called them to.

Before the evening was over, it was time for “The Debriefing & Resolution.” Facing their wives, children, families and friends, and standing shoulder to shoulder at the front of the sanctuary, the men of Holiness Tabernacle resolved to be real men and examples of Christ:

“I do solemnly resolve before God and these witnesses to take full responsibility for myself,” the men echoed in unison as Pastor Pruitte led them in the pledge. Indeed, all hearts were filled with godly pride as the men declared their allegiance to God, their families and the church.

Perhaps the greatest surprise of the evening, however, came at the very end when Pastor Pruitte presented Minister Powell with his official ministerial license. Once again, the congregation was at its feet to see one of their own stepping into the calling God had placed over his life.

The annual Men’s Day service was truly a success – naturally, financially and spiritually! Most of all, the men of HTC were revitalized and reminded that with God on their side, His mission was truly possible.

Holiness Tabernacle Men’s Day Resolution

I do solemnly resolve before God and these witnesses to take full responsibility for myself.

I will put God first in my life, in my decisions, and in my life aspirations.

I will seek to honor God, be faithful to His church, obey His Word, and do His will.

I will honor my father and mother.

I will endeavor to love others as God has loved me and sent His Son for me.

I will confront evil head on, pursue justice for all, and love mercy.

I will be quick to forgive others whole heartedly as I desire of God to forgive my wrongs.

I will work diligently while it is day, pray without ceasing, and hide the Word in my heart that I might not sin against God.

I will be faithful to my leader, and protect the vision God has given unto him for our Church.

I will learn from my mistakes, repent of all sins, and walk with integrity as a man answerable to God.

I will recognize that I am my brother’s keeper, and that I am not alone in this walk.

I will pray for my enemies, lend a hand to those in need, and restore my brothers with the strength God has given unto me.
