Prayer Changes
Matthew 26:36-42
by Daelena Paxton
Recently, on the job, I found myself in a place where I had no choice but to pray to God. I was beginning to feel overwhelmed, overworked, and not appreciated. I would say to myself, "Do they not see all that I'm doing? Don't they know how hard I work!?!" After a while, I got tired of complaining to myself and others. I began to talk to God about it. My prayers changed from "God, open their eyes…" to "God, what can I do differently to make this situation better?" Soon, my attitude changed from "they're going to miss me when I'm gone!" to "God, forgive me for not being more appreciative."
Jesus changed His prayer while in the garden of Gethsemane. He asked God to change His situation, but then Jesus changed His prayer to "thy will be done." Sometimes it doesn't seem like it at first, but God's plan is always better than our own. He knows what's best for us.
I see God continually moving in my situation and giving me favor. And I thank Him for that.
