In times past, some of you might recall the days when and while a couple dated a term was given or a statement of declaration was made. “I’m spoken for…”
This declaration is two-fold, first it serves as a witness to the community and the world at large of a relationship that is established and then to ward anyone who might hold the idea of entertaining the heart of a young woman or young man and any new requests or advances from others.
This relationship was held in high regard by family and neighbors it was also highly respected and fiercely protected by those who know.
Song of Solomon 2:16 My beloved is mine, and I am his ……….
Spoken for, isn’t something we hear of much anymore, for some it might be seen as antiquated or old fashioned , but the power of the statement still remains intact, it’s intent remains enforced and protected.
Although the declaration is made known publicly, it does not mean or exempt us from those who would seek to impose their own will.
Today in our relationships with spouses, friends and family there are those who seek to sever and disrupt our commitment.
Ephesians 4:30 And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
To me this screams “Spoken for “betrothed, engaged consecrated by God for God. He that has promised is faithful to do what He said He would do. He’s coming back to reclaim that which is his own. I have been spoken for. I am eternally thankful that one day while I was yet a sinner Christ died for me; shed his perfect blood for a wretch like you and me. Endured the shame of the cross, and his blood speaks for us.
I am covered by a love divine. I hear God saying “This One is Mine”, you see I have been spoken for …
