I want to share an experience I had when I was at a very young. Two months before I finished school, my grandmother signed for me to purchase a car that was great and exciting! Graduation was in May and school was out, and I got a job at this place called Hanson & Scale Co. This place made all different types of scales.
One evening after work, a friend of mine and I were racing. My grandmother had told me never to do that so I knew good and well I should not have been doing it. The race started, he passed me and then I passed him. We would look over at each other at the same time laughing, but in my mind I'm wrestling with the fact that I should not be doing this. He passed me again, so now the devil is telling me you really got to get him. Deep down on the inside I know that this is wrong, but still I jump out there. I looked down at the speed I am running 105 miles an hour and then I look up and see this big truck hurling towards me. It’s a Mack truck, you know those truck that carry those long logs that have a Bull Dog ornament on the hood.
Once I saw the Mack, I hit brakes because I was scared and my buddy saw what I saw he his brakes as well. I could not squeeze in front of him, so I hit brakes harder. In my mind I knew that this it for me so I just said,
“Oh God”.
When I came to, the car was on its side down in this steep embankment. There were these two old ladies standing there and they asked me, “Son, are you hurt? and I answered “no ma’am”. The only thing out of place, from the wreck, was my watch and it was lying down at the bottom of the door of the car.
To this day, I try to think of whom those two old ladies were that stood by my car. I never saw them again. And even right now, I know there is power in His name and that He chose me. So many people do not get the chance like I got. I owe Him so much that I know I could never repay.
That evening my grandmother asked where the car was, I said, “Remember I was going to put it in the shop” neglecting to tell her that I had an accident. My grandmother was sitting on the porch in her rocking chair, the next evening, and she said, “Mr. Plurett picked me and showed me where you had your accident (Mr. Plurett owns the store where the accident happened). I stopped dead in my tracks because I did not know what was coming next. All she said was, “if you wouldn’t have called on God when you did you wouldn’t be here today!” Do you know that was the worse whipping I ever received and she never laid a hand on me. I went to my room and set on my bed thinking about what had happened. Now when I looked back over my past and the situations that I been through I know I am blessed. I thank God for blessing me and keeping me safe from the bad things that could have happened.
Thank you, JESUS
