It Won’t Work Because It Doesn’t Fit – November 2K14 WTLB

By Sister Josie Manrique

Have you ever tried to reach out to develop a relationship, only to get rejected? Have you  wanted to keep in contact with that family member you grew up with, but they don’t return your phone calls or emails? Do you feel like the black sheep of the family?

doesntfitIn this walk of life we sometimes try to force our love onto others, only to get rejected. As a Christian, the number of times that happens is multiplied. I have often wondered, “what is wrong with me?” when others don’t want my friendship. I’ve had to stop trying to keep a connection that just won’t connect. But as I thought my life as a hermit had just begun, God gave me some insight into my situation. Everything I want is not good for me. God revealed to me that I have a gift that is very precious, and it can be tainted by those around me. Although I do not see the harm in certain relationships, God does and is guiding me away from the pitfalls that relationship may hide. We may see the downfalls of that relationship we are trying to have with an unsaved friend, but what about the one with our close family member? Do we see how that relationship may be a stumbling block in our walk with God?

My testimony is just that: God has delivered me from wanting to force my love and affections onto people. I now realize that those past relationships with friends and family have not worked out for a reason. Although I do love them, a desire for a close bond with them is something that my walk with Christ cannot handle at this time. I know that in due season everything will come together.Take my relationship with my mother for example. At one time, we were not that close no matter how hard I tried. But once she became saved, our relationship got a whole lot better. God now uses her to minister to me.

The reality is that people in our lives can hinder what God wants for us. We need to accept that the puzzle piece does not fit into that spot, put it to the side, and move on to find the piece that does.
