What a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and grief’s to bear,
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer.
We as Christians sing this song often in church, in our cars, at home or just about any time the song rest upon our heart.
When Joseph Scriven wrote this, he wrote it as a poem to boost his ailing mother. He said "The Lord and I did it between us." He found Jesus to be his best friend. John 15:15 says, “No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.”
We sometimes forget that we should take everything to God in prayer. We say it, but we don’t always do it. Jesus had moments of joy, He also had a difficult life, but He prayed to His Father at all times. Luke 22:44 states, “And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.” We will suffer grief, we will have burdens to bare, temptations will be dressed up looking good, we will have ongoing trials, uncontested sins, pain and sorrows may come as a package, but we can call on Jesus. He will help us through it all. He is our friend.
We don’t need a cell phone to call on Him. All we need is a clean and pure heart and faith to believe Him. Have you called on your friend, Jesus, today? I have. I said Jesus, You are my friend and I need you to help me inspire someone today. Anoint my lips to witness your living words of Hope so they can understand that You are worthy of all the praise and You are our friend.
