Let’s Take This Journey Together: Concerning The Harvest

Hello ladies, and welcome to my blog! The year 2014 is behind us – which means it’s time to say goodbye to my Women of the Bible Series. I must say, as I wrote about each of those pivotal women, learning the way they thought, felt and realizing their experiences were not much different than our experiences today, I found myself connecting with each of them in a special way. I hope you learned from them as I did.
This year I am shifting focus again. As a teacher, my students know that one of my favorite sayings is, “Let’s take this journey together!” So, I decided to make this the title of my 2015 blog. This year, I will be answering questions that many of us have about this Christian journey, but may be afraid to ask. All questions are submitted anonymously, and I will answer your questions using Biblical principles and drawing from my personal experiences. So if you have a question or would like to comment, feel free to submit them – you just may see your question addressed and answered on my blog! I look forward to another year of sharing with you. Let’s Take This Journey Together!
Taking this journey together,
First Lady Vivian Pruitte

Question: Lord, where is my harvest?
***
ANSWER: This year I had to remind the Lord that He declared this to be the year of my harvest. And not just a typical harvest, but a jubilee harvest. The Jubilee Harvest was an extra special harvest that the Jews celebrated every 50th year. This meant that a person might only see one in their lifetime – two at the most
The history of the Jubilee Harvest comes from the Old Testament. Preparing Israel to enter the Promised Land, the Lord gave them instructions on how to care for the land before they even entered. Not only were the children if Israel instructed to keep the Sabbath by resting on the seventh day, but the land also had to keep a Sabbath by resting every seven years. If the land did not get its rest it would be depleted of its fertility and the minerals needed to grow crops. This rest gave the land an opportunity to replenish itself and become fertile again for next year’s crops. When the land reached its 49th year the land had to rest for the 50th year which was called the year of jubilee.
Jubilee means rejoicing, celebrating, extreme joy or happiness. Originally it meant the blowing of trumpets (shofar). It was an entire year of celebration! No sowing to be done – only reaping.
It began on the Day of Atonement in the 49th year. The Lord made provision for Israel to eat off the land during the Sabbath years by giving them such an abundance of crops that it would carry them over for three years afterwards.
So because the Lord proclaimed such a harvest for us this year, I was ready to reap my personal harvest. I waited, but my harvest did not seem to be coming. I had placed several petitions before the Lord at the beginning of the year and anticipated receiving my abundance. But as we moved through the first quarter of the year I began to get discouraged. I remember telling someone that the fight had gone out of me; I was beginning to feel down. Things did not seem to be going well and I certainly did not feel like I was receiving any harvest.
It was then that I found myself starting my prayers with "Lord, you said this was the year of my harvest…" Well, we ended up having an Azusa Street type service at church, and the Lord restored my fight and my faith! The Lord has already begun to do miraculous things in my life and I am waiting in expectation for what else the Lord has in store for me this year. It's something that I will be feasting on and talking about for years to come just like the Israelites feasted off the crops for three years during the land's Sabbath.
I asked the Lord, ‘what does it take to receive a harvest?’ and He replied, ‘the harvest is there. You just have to go out and pick it.’ This gave me the determination to go out and reap my harvest. If you are looking for your harvest, know that it’s there waiting for you to go out and pick. If you have been sowing it is your time to reap.
