Walking through the doors of Holiness Tabernacle, July 15-17, you would hardly have recognized the sanctuary. With the hard work of Mother Vivian Pruitte and her team, the sanctuary and fellowship hall was completely transformed into an exciting spy laboratory! Over 50 registrants signed up to participate in this year’s exciting Vacation Bible School: “Agents of Truth!”
Each evening, the young and the old gathered in the debriefing room to receive their training and assignment for the evening. After reciting the pledge to the American flag, the Bible and the Christian flag, Minister Powell would survey the room full of eager “agents”, read out their assignment, and say in a grave voice, “Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to crack the code, uncover the counterfeit, and have fun!” As soon as the words escaped his lips, the agents were off to the races.
For the next two hours, peals of laughter and jubilant shouts echoed throughout the church and all over the parking lot. Students and VBS teachers engaged in exciting lessons about Moses and the burning bush, Elijah and the false prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel, and the Golden Rule. In one section of the parking lot, Deacon Napoleon Paxton headed up the obstacle course; everyone gathered around for the final showdown between Pastor and First Lady Pruitte (The jury is still out on who was the true victor)!
The final evening of Vacation Bible School was marked by a more relaxed, but no less exciting atmosphere. The anticipation of the VBS finale was palpable. By 8:30pm that Friday night, every “agent” had two things on their mind – winning a prize, and eating the delicious, smoked meat being barbequed outside that filled the nostrils of every attendee. One by one, each VBS registrant stood proudly to receive awards for recitations, correct answers and tickets earned each night. When the last prize was awarded, every agent and staff member made their way outdoors to enjoy food and fellowship, and to celebrate the end of the most successful Vacation Bible School Holiness Tabernacle has ever had. We can’t wait to see you there next year!
