I Confess That I Believe & Trust God
By Brother Juwan Lanham
What does it mean to believe? You can believe in a physical aspect: sight, smell, taste and feel. However, as believers, we are called to believe in a spiritual aspect, and that's called faith. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” This year I declared that scripture into my life and I have faith that it will come true.
To break down the main components of this verse and understand its meaning, I must first share why I choose this verse. God has declared something in my life. It was spoken and declared over my life three times, but I have not been able to see how God will do it. This year, however, I will have to declare it, believe it, and stand on His Word – God’s going to bring it to pass.
I stand on this particular verse because that is all I can do. To “trust in the Lord” is something that we as believers have a hard time doing. It is, however, the simplest of things to do. To trust God means to trust more than what you can see. When trusting God, physical belief can no longer be a variable. When I get past that, I make it easier for me to trust Him with all my heart and not lean on my understanding. I realize that I know nothing.
As I consider God’s creation, it simply amazes me how man tries to explain it and just cannot seem to get it right. God does so much in a given moment of time. I have to acknowledge Him in everything that He does for me, and He said He will direct me if I do. So that is what I believe, and I know He will do it because He said it.
