There’s An App for That
14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.
15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
Recently during a Sunday Morning worship service I asked those in attendance to pull out their mobile devices and identify a few of their Apps. Needless to say there were several. Some provided news, others played movies and still some tracked financial information. We determined that there was an App for practically everything. However, there was no one App that could do everything.
We continued our discussion and discovered that as people, we (like our Apps) have a propensity to be specialists in specific areas. This covers a wide range. In Ancient Greece the concept of one god was rejected because of the complexities of life. As a result Ancient Greeks had several gods that specialized in specific areas (like our Apps). Zeus was the god of weather. Apollo was the god of sun, dance and music. Poseidon was the god of the sea and Diana was the goddess of love. There are several more but time won’t permit.
A thousand or so years later Ancient Rome repeated the effort and developed another group of gods to serve. Mars was the god of war, Neptune was the god of the sea, Cupid was the god of love and so on. We have adopted the same approach in athletics (specialists who “close” out a baseball game, or a designated hitter), medicine (a doctor specializes in specific areas – ear, nose and throat or OBGYN), legal professionals (criminal law, corporate law, tax law, etc.) and more.
There are even some reformations that encourage their constituents to pray to certain saints for specific needs. In other words, one would pray to one saint for a lost item, but another saint for career advice. I have even noticed a form of this in the holiness church. Some people sit and wait for someone to sing for them – because they don’t sing (even though the scripture says sing unto the Lord a new song all ye people). Others have the attitude that only the deacon can pick up trash or clean the church. Yes, much like the Apps on our telephones or mobile devices, we have adopted the doctrine that we can only perform a single task. To that I say emphatically, “Thank God for Jesus.”
The author of Hebrews tells us a truth that Jesus felt and experienced every feeling and emotion we have and will ever have. He was also tempted as we are, yet He was without sin. Jesus was and continues to be an App for everything that can come into our lives. As a result of the completeness of Jesus Christ, He can heal all manner of disease, He can supply all our needs, He will forgive all our iniquities, He is the God of all flesh and the Word declares all souls belong to God.
My friend, if your husband doesn’t love you, Sister Leah would say, “there’s an App for that!”
If your wife acts like a foolish woman, Brother Job would say, “there’s An app for that!”
If your son runs off and becomes influenced by an ungodly crowd, the Prodigal Son’s father would say, “there’s an App for that!”
If you’re put out of your house and cannot take care of your child, Sister Hagar would say, “there’s an App for that!”
If you’re sick and every doctor you have visited cannot figure out what’s wrong, the woman with the issue of blood will tell you, “there’s an App for that!”
If you don’t get along with your siblings, Brother Joseph will testify, “there’s an App for that!”
If you can’t seem to make ends meet and you have some hungry mouths to feed, the Little Boy will tell you, “there’s an App for that!”
He is the God of the hills and the God of the valleys. Isaiah 43:2 says,
When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.
Can’t pay your taxes? Feeling neglected? Feeling guilty? Feeling lonely? Have you been abused? Are you in despair? Are you demon possessed? Feeling weak?
There’s an App for that!
I bless you in the name of the Lord.
