Rosevine

I wrote this poem several years ago during a time of healing and reflection. I decided to write a letter to my younger self, giving advice on going through life from childhood to growing into a woman, and continuously growing today and beyond. Sharing this, I hope I may help another woman, no matter how young or old. We all need a push sometimes. This is for US.

Rosevine

By Sister Alex Purkett

So young, so bright, oh so beautiful. Don’t let anyone including yourself tell you otherwise. A precious bud growing from concrete those who do not understand your miracle will be weary to accept you. Continue to be curious, open to the skies and go farther, because your gifts, you as a gift, are limitless.

You have gone through so much, to the point you barely feel like blooming anymore, but my love, you are a menagerie of mosaics, broken for now, but your puzzle will not stay incomplete. You are timeless, strong, and a force to be reckoned with. Don’t let them keep you down, that’s not who you are. At this time of your life you are barely beginning, and hardships will continue, but always remember your name. Your stand. Defender of mankind. What you go through now will leave you with thorns in your sides, but I promise they will become your greatest weapons.

Your growth is far from over, but you have come so far. Please look into the mirror everyday. Those rainbow eyes hold so many stories that have made you the woman you are today. I know you still have moments, days even, but this is all for you. A graceful work in process. And I know if you stop and look back on what you’ve conquered and who you’ve become, you’ll be able to continue like you always have, queen. Stand tall, and keep your head to the sky, for your life has truly become a work of art, my masterpiece.
