Don’t Quit!

Don’t Quit

By Missionary Felicia Burrus

Excerpt from Poem, “Don’t Quit”

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,

When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill,

When the funds are low and the debts are high,

And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,

When care is pressing you down a bit,

Rest, if you must, but don’t you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,

 As every one of us sometimes learns,

And many a failure turns about,

When he might have won had he stuck it out;

Don’t give up though the pace seems slow

You may succeed with another blow.

This is an excerpt from a poem I learned years ago titled, “Don’t Quit.”  Lately God has seemed to be reminding me of this message and His Word.  Galatians 6:9 says, “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”

When things get hard that is when our flesh gets weak.  Our flesh wants us to give up, to cease the pain and find a new way.  But our faith in God, our hope in Him, nudges us forward.  It’s by His power and His Holy Spirit that we are able to go on.  Certain situations may cause us to feel that we have done all we can do, there is nothing left to give, and we just need to stop – but that is precisely the moment that we shouldn’t.

Ask God for a little more strength.  Take a breath and get back in the fight.  You can’t see the finish line from your vantage point, but God can.  He is watching, and He knows how close you are to your victory!  Don’t Quit!  You can, and you will be able to look back and proclaim, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith! (2 Timothy 4:7)
