I Have the Best Dad in the Whole World!

As the calendar turns to the month of June, we have several days and events to look forward to – the end of the school year, the first day of summer, Pentecost Sunday and one of my favorites, Father’s Day!

In the spirit of Father’s Day, again I sat down and spoke with another young Holiness Tabernacle all-star (who just happens to be my oldest granddaughter). As you read through our questions, do any of her responses bring back memories?

Pastor Pruitte (PP): What does your dad do at work?

Plum Marie Paxton (PMP): I think he works with computers.

PP:    What is something funny your dad does?

PMP: We play a game where we race to touch a lamp. If he gets there first, he sings a remix of a song!

PP: Name or describe a fun day you had with your dad.

PMP: Last week we went to the movies and watched Endgame, the Avengers. We saw it at the IMAX theatre.

PP: What do you want to give your dad for Father’s Day?

PMP: This is a hard question. I suppose I’d give him a big desk.

PP: What do you like most about your dad?

PMP: He let’s me stay up late sometimes and watch television!

We concluded our discussion and I chuckled quietly to myself. How well I remember playing hide and seek in the house with my daughters (while my wife was away) and hiding in the dryer. Only to break the door hinge when I heard my wife pull up in the driveway.

I also remember raking leaves with the girls and my wife hiding them in a pile of leaves – where she then told me they had disappeared. I found myself running up and down the street practically in tears crying out their names. After a few minutes (it seemed like an eternity), they jumped out of the piles of leaves laughing (I found no humor in this at all).

The Bible reminds me that children are an inheritance from the Lord (Psalms 127:3). Fathers are a blessing from God as well. I truly thank God for the fun filled memories my family has given me as a father, and the fun filled memories I have had, and I am making with my dad today.

Please take time and celebrate the father in your life today. Let him, the world and God know you have the best dad in the world!!

From my granddaughter, our youth and myself – Happy Father’s Day!
