Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
Matthew 25:35
“Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed?” (Isaiah 53:1). This was a question asked by the prophet Isaiah to a suffering and defeated nation of Judah. They had experienced a humiliating defeat by King Nebuchadnezzar and the Babylonians. The people of Judah had reason to doubt Isaiah’s message of hope, because they had listened to false prophecy and hypocritical messages for so long from “so called” men of God.
For decades, God warned Judah about her idolatrous living and ignoring God’s Word. True prophets like Isaiah, Jeremiah and Ezekiel were drowned out by the lies and deception of the false prophets. We see the same scenario unfolding today. It is becoming more difficult to determine the truth from lies. No doubt, your political affiliation and view of the world is determined by which channel you view on your television set. Your decisions on health and finances are impacted by which politician, or group of friends you associate with. It is evident, today’s “truth” is open to different interpretations.
Recently, our weeknight Bible Study lessons focused on the end times: the Rapture, the Millenium, the Great Tribulation, the Battle of Armageddon, and other prophecies. As I studied the lessons, there was a part of me that doubted or questioned what the prophets wrote. Thank God for the Holy Spirit – He spoke to me and reminded me of His Word.
When Isaiah gave his message of hope about a coming Messiah, undoubtedly there were many who must have thought this would never happen. When the eagle-eyed prophet declared that the Savior would be born of a virgin, that had to seem impossible! Just as Sarah laughed at the thought of having a child well into her nineties (Genesis 18:12), some of God’s promises do not make human sense at all. This is because we see events and circumstances through our limited ability, and not the unlimited power of God.
Many years ago, the Lord spoke to me concerning His work in this area. I had my own conceived thoughts of how and when it would unfold: however, God had an entirely different way of fulfilling His Word in my life. There is not a day that goes by that I do not wonder how He has blessed our congregation as we prepare to build during a pandemic. It is then I remember His promise and His Word: “…and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it” (Matthew 16:18).
Jesus had just finished telling the disciples about the latter days. He warned them of false prophets. He warned them of persecution and difficult times. Then He told them not to be deceived for many would come in His name, but His Word would never pass away.
My friends, we are in perilous times. I encourage you not to allow anyone to “rewrite” God’s Word and promise to you and His people. God is going to do exactly what He said He would. As impossible and improbable as His Word may sound, His Word will stand forever. Remember what He told Moses, “God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?” (Numbers 23:19). Also, consider Titus 1:2 which declares, “In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;”. God’s Word is not fake news!
I bless you in the name of the Lord.
Amen enjoyed this tremendously, God Bless
