My name is Sister Colleen Brown and I’ve got a testimony!
For the past four years, I have balanced being a full-time student alongside being a full-time worker. At times, it was challenging, and I often wanted to quit one or the other. Working any job can be stressful given certain circumstances, but I wholeheartedly believe that working a retail job is the ultimate test of one’s salvation. As a sales associate, I was often met with complaints, frustration, and downright disrespect on a daily basis. Even though I loved the people I worked with, my job was beginning to take a toll on my mental well-being. I dreaded waking up for work, and while on the clock, I would eagerly countdown to the end of my shift. I was moody, and my work was bare minimal, just to say the task was complete and to be left alone of the never-ending demands that were thrown my way.
About three months ago, I fell to an all-time low. I felt helpless and stuck. Knowing that my job at the time was the main culprit contributing to these feelings, I decided that it was time for a change. From that day on, I explicitly expressed to God that I needed to leave my job and be placed in a job that would help me prepare for my permanent career upon graduating college. Once I told God my desires, I began to search through the various job postings on Indeed. I applied to several and was even invited to interview with many companies. As promising as all of the jobs were, they still weren’t for me.
One day, I saw a posting for an administrative assistant at a local law firm. As I am pursuing a degree in criminal justice, with aspirations to work in the legal realm, I knew this was the job for me. However, fear began to set in. I began to doubt my abilities and felt that this job was out of my reach. While the job may have been out of my reach, it wasn’t out of God’s. While staring at my screen, trying to decide whether or not to apply, I heard God say, “Apply, and I will handle the rest.” So, I applied. After submitting my application and regaining confidence in myself, I reached out to the law firm to speak with the hiring manager. While on the phone, he reviewed my application, resume, and references. I was offered the opportunity to interview on the spot. After completing my interview, and in less than 24 hours, I was offered the position.
I have now worked at the firm for a little over one month, and I am in a much happier state. I have developed a relationship with my team and was given a raise in my short time. I say all of this to remind myself and others of this: Do not be afraid to tell God what you want. Not only does He listen, but He goes beyond and always exceeds our expectations.
Amen God Bless Be Encouraged
