By Pastor Eddie B Pruitte, Jr.
In His infinite wisdom the Lord decided not to allow me to biologically father sons; I have been tremendously blessed with four beautiful daughters. I am, however, blessed with a son by marriage as well as a grandson. I have also laid claim to several spiritual sons – one of which was honored this past 106th Holy Convocation – Elder Eugene Charles McCown, Jr.
Of the several hundreds of adjutants in our denomination, Elder McCown was the only one recognized and honored this past week: he was elevated to the position of “Overseer” in the National Adjutancy corps. Indeed, the work of the adjutant is one of a servant leader:
The National Adjutancy is a team of people who are united and organized to help make ministry work. Some of the responsibilities include, but are not limited to: preparation for the consecration and installation of new bishops, the dignified execution of home going celebrations for deceased leaders, assisting the Presiding Bishop in the orderly conduction of national ceremonial occasions as well as performing any other duty that the Presiding Bishop may assign.
Anyone who has seen Elder McCown in action knows, unquestionably, he is a servant, worker and leader personified. From leading our Pastor’s Aide auxiliary, to serving as a member of our Executive Staff, to working on the Finance Team, to serving as a member of our ministerial staff, to spear heading the “Fifth Quarter” ministry for the youth and the third Saturday flea market; to preaching the gospel and praising God fervently, Elder McCown is about the Lord’s business. As his pastor, I was beaming with pride when he was elevated in his servant ministry to the level of Overseer as well as Overseer of Operations for the National Adjutancy.
It seems as though everywhere I turned last week someone was giving a glowing and shining report about this young man; from our newly elected General Board Member and Jurisdictional Prelate of Virginia First Jurisdiction, to our sainted State Supervisor, to the General Secretary of the Church Of God In Christ, to some of the Church’s Auxiliaries In Ministries (AIM) leadership, to Bishop Matthew Williams, the Adjutant General of the corps.
On the last Sunday morning of the convocation, I looked amongst the congregation of the tens of thousands that had gathered in the Edward R. Jones Dome. Newly elevated Overseer McCown led the Presidium of our great denomination in the procession, and I was proud that another one of my spiritual sons was serving in a leadership role in the Church that I love and cherish – the grand ole Church Of God In Christ!
Congratulations Overseer McCown – your pastor and the Holiness Tabernacle Church family praise God with you for your job well done!
Congratulations, Eld. McCown…what an honor. My heart rejoices with the saints at HTC.
