He was obviously old enough to understand what was about to happen to him (Genesis 22:); we can infer from the scriptures that he willingly laid himself on the altar and was prepared to die before God intervened.

In the referenced text, Isaac is a married adult and his father has died. Isaac faced the same enemy his father had previously faced – King Abimelech. Just as his father feared the king of the Philistines and lied about his relationship with his wife Sarah, Isaac told Abimelech that Rebekah was his sister as well. Thankfully, God protected Rebekah as He did Sarah. Isn't it amazing how many of us repeat the same mistakes as our parents?

Despite Isaac's lack of faith, God blessed him and soon he began to prosper, so much so that the Philistine ordered him and his now vast estate out of the country. The Middle East is known to be a dry climate. Add to this, the scriptures tell us that there was a drought as well. Isaac proceeds to dig a well for a source of water and life. What follows is absolutely amazing, unless you are familiar with the tactics of the devil.

The Bible says that every time Isaac dug a well, the Philistines would fill them with dirt, or close them. In short, they were cutting off Isaac's (and their own) lifeline. This happened on several occasions. The Word goes on to say, every time the Philistines filled in Isaac's wells, he did not fight them or strike back; he simply dug another well. After Isaac was told to leave the Philistines, the herdsman of Gerar did the same thing. In fact, on one occasion the Bible says that the well was springing up – as if to say it was a geyser. Yet, the enemies of Isaac filled it up. Because of his peaceful spirit, however, Isaac simply dug another well: he moved on.

The story ends in a peculiar, but thought provoking way. There was not some showdown. There wasn't a thunderous declaration from God. Fire and brimstone did not fall from heaven and burn up Isaac's enemies. The Philistines were not stricken with leprosy and have to ask Isaac to pray for their deliverance. According to the scripture, King Abimelech and his friends (all enemies of Isaac who assisted in covering the wells) noticed that as hard as they fought against Isaac, God continued to bless him. They noticed Isaac did not waste valuable time fighting them. Instead, Isaac focused on being productive and successful.

My brothers in Christ, has someone hurt you or disappointed you lately? Has someone fought against your success or have you failed at an attempt to be successful? Have one of your lifelong dreams seemed to have disappeared? Don't give up. Don't sit around waiting for someone to come back and apologize. Don't waste time and expend energy hoping or wishing something bad to happen to them. Don't ask God to teach them a lesson. Dig another well. Focus your attention and energy on doing what adds to your life and pleasing God. Dig another well.

The post Do It Again! – October 2K15 WOTM appeared first on Holiness Tabernacle.

<post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">5656</post-id>

Called To Serve – May 2K15 WOTM

HTC Admin

Men

WordoftheMonth

Called To Serve

Church Of God In Christ

Holiness Tabernacle

HTC Men's Ministry

WOTM

Several years ago a close friend spoke a word of wisdom into my life and those words have blessed me to this very day. He said to me if I aspired to be great in God, I should serve a great man (servant) of God. To this very date, not only do I practice this, […]

The post Called To Serve – May 2K15 WOTM appeared first on Holiness Tabernacle.

Several years ago a close friend spoke a word of wisdom into my life and those words have blessed me to this very day. I am sure you can think of others.

The reason why I believe God blesses and honors those who serve others is because: (1) in order to truly serve and follow someone, you must be humble and obedient. The scripture clearly tells us to humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God and in due time He will exalt us. (2) Serving someone great allows you to learn from them and even build upon their legacy and successes. If you follow mediocrity, you are destined to only repeat the mistakes and poor practices you see and have influenced you. Have you ever noticed people who are perennially weak or unstable seem to be drawn to one another? The saying is something like, “…birds of a feather flock together”. It only makes sense if you want to be strong, find yourself in the company of strong people!

A third truth is true leaders are always looking to disciple others and up-build them. Great leaders are not insecure. They are not afraid to instruct, empower and make those around them great. Great leaders in God understand that He is the one that made them who they are and they are not conceited nor do they feel threatened by others. There is always more of God to spread around!

Unfortunately the disciples had a misconceived notion of greatness. On more than one occasion (Matthew chapters 20 and 23) and Luke (chapter 22) Jesus explained to them what true greatness is / was – serving others. On another occasion the mother of James and John asked Jesus to place her sons on Jesus’ left and right hand (Mathew 20 and Mark 10). Obviously she had no idea had Jesus granted her request; her sons would have taken the place of the thieves.

You may ask, “How can I serve someone great?” First of all seek God to reveal to you who you should be following – don’t trust your feelings or emotions. Secondly, look at the person’s track record. Do they measure up to what Paul described (see I Timothy 3) or a Titus 2 woman? Why is it we let weak, disgruntled, disagreeable or bitter people influence us? Stop and ask yourself, is the person advising me, or influencing me really helping me? Have they accomplished anything that is noteworthy?

Next, find a way to show them support; perhaps verbally. Call them on the telephone occasionally and tell them that you appreciate them. Drop them an email or text with words of encouragement. Tell them they are doing a good job! Secondly, pray for them. You don’t even need to ask them if they need anything, just pray for them. Ask God to cover them, keep them healthy, bless them financially, bless their family, extend their life, and allow their dreams to come to fruition.

Then, go the extra step. Ask God to bless you to make their job easier; ask God to bless you to better serve that person. Some may call this brown-nosing or kissing-up. To those persons I would simply ignore because in all probability, they have not accomplished anything. However, if I were to respond, I would ask: was Abraham kissing up to Melchizedek? Was Joshua brown-nosing Moses? Was David kissing up to Saul? Was Elisha brown nosing Elijah? I think not – they were merely serving. Just as Jesus served His Father, if we are to be great, we must serve someone great!

The post Called To Serve – May 2K15 WOTM appeared first on Holiness Tabernacle.

<post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">5273</post-id>

You’ve Got Mail! And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.” (Act 2:1-3 KJV)

The Bible tells us that Holy Ghost is necessary to help guide you through your life, but people who are seeking to be filled with the Holy Ghost sometimes seem to have a tough time in ushering in the Holy Spirit. Have you ever wondered why?

<img decoding="async" width="500" height="342" data-attachment-id="5008" data-permalink="https://www.holinesstabernaclecogic.org/2015/03/01/youve-got-mail-the-gift-of-the-holy-ghost-march-2k15-wotm/mailbox/" data-orig-file="https://www.holinesstabernaclecogic.org/wp-content/uploads/image/mailbox.jpg" data-orig-size="500,342" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{"aperture":"0","credit":"","camera":"","caption":"","created_timestamp":"0","copyright":"","focal_length":"0","iso":"0","shutter_speed":"0","title":"","orientation":"0"}" data-image-title="mailbox" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-medium-file="https://www.holinesstabernaclecogic.org/wp-content/uploads/image/mailbox-300x205.jpg" data-large-file="https://www.holinesstabernaclecogic.org/wp-content/uploads/image/mailbox.jpg" alt="mailbox" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-5008" src="http://www.holinesstabernaclecogic.org/wp-content/uploads/image//mailbox.jpg" style="width: 300px; height: 205px; border-width: 0px; border-style: solid; margin: 5px; float: right;" srcset="https://www.holinesstabernaclecogic.org/wp-content/uploads/image/mailbox.jpg 500w, https://www.holinesstabernaclecogic.org/wp-content/uploads/image/mailbox-300x205.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px" />When the altar call is made, those seeking to be filled with the Holy Ghost are often tarrying; others may be praying with them. Too often, persons praying at the altar are doing and saying different things. However, the bible says in Acts 2:1, "…and when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all in one place with one accord."

The day of the Pentecost was the second great festival of the Jewish Year. It was a harvest festival when the first fruits of the grain harvest were presented to God (Lev. 23:17).

In like manner, the day of Pentecost symbolizes for the church the beginning of God’s harvest for souls in the world. They were all with one accord with one mind or the same mind in obedience to Jesus' instructions to wait for the Father’s gift of the Holy Spirit.

Joel 2:28 says, "…and it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh." The prophet Joel was predicting a day when God would pour out His Spirit on whoever called on the name of the Lord.

That is why saints of old who were seeking the baptism of the Holy Spirit would gather together and tarry at the altar, repeating “Jesus! Jesus! Jesus!” over and over until they were all with one accord, crying out and calling on the name of Jesus to help usher in the Holy Ghost.

Besides being on one accord with your fellow saints, there are some other conditions that have to be met before the Holy Ghost can dwell in you:

You must be saved – Baptism in the Holy Spirit is intended for all who profess faith in Christ, have been born again, and thereby have received the indwelling of the spirit.

You must be actively following Christ – One of Christ’s key goals in His earthly mission was to baptize His followers in the Holy Spirit (Matthew 3:11, Mark 1:8, Luke 3:16, John 1:33).

Even Jesus Christ Himself did not enter His ministry until he had been anointed with the Holy Ghost and with power (Acts 10:38, Luke 4:1,18). It is very important to be filled with the Holy Ghost!

With this knowledge in mind, you’ve got mail! The Holy Ghost is a gift, so reach out and receive Him!

He is waiting on you to open up so that you can be endued with power from on high. Be encouraged to open up and receive your gift; He is waiting on you!

~By Elder George Green

The post You’ve Got Mail! The tragedy is that Jehovah, the blood covenant friend of Abraham, came to earth, conceived in the womb of the virgin Mary, born in a manger, welcomed by an angelic choir, grew up among his own people, yet remained a stranger to them. This is the tragedy of the ages.

The one who had made a covenant with Abraham, who cared for the children of Israel, like a nursing mother cares for her child, was on trial before the very High Priesthood that He established.

He was not only Mary’s son, but God, Jehovah Himself – the Savior. When we come to Him as sinners and take Jesus as Savior, confess Him as our Lord, then every sin that we have ever committed is forgiven. The remission of our sins takes the place of the goat under the Old Covenant. “In whom we have our redemption through His blood, the remission of our trespasses.” (Ephesians 1:7) The Old Covenant was established to bare the sins of the children of Israel, while the blood covered Israel as a nation.

Under the first covenant, known as the Mosaic Law, Israel had a law, the priesthood, sacrifices, and ordinances. When the law was broken (as it had to be because Israel was spiritually dead), the priesthood was ordered to make an atonement, or a covering, for them.

Through the mighty mystery of God’s will, Jesus’ death and resurrection is the greatest drama of divine love and grace. He met the demands of justice; He met the needs of man in redemption, and is now seated at the right hand of the Majesty on High – our High Priest, the Lord advocate of the new creation. He is the attorney general for the family of God. “My little children, these things write I unto you that ye may not sin. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” (1 John 2:1)

God’s forgiveness is an expression of His divine love. The moment we sin and confess our sin, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9)

The post A Covenant Of Love – July 2K14 WOTM appeared first on Holiness Tabernacle.

<post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">4457</post-id>
