<p><em>By Jeremiah Paxton, age 11</em></p>
<p>Hello my name is Jeremiah and I&rsquo;m going to tell you why I think confidence is important. When I was in the fourth grade I was not very confident. I felt like I wasn&rsquo;t very smart. But then my dad told me that I should be very confident about myself, so I prayed to God and asked Him to help me be confident.&nbsp;</p>
<p>In the fifth grade I started off the year with A&rsquo;s and B&rsquo;s. I had never done that before. Right then I realized God answered my prayers. We should all remember that God loves us all so we are all important, and since we are important we should be confident in ourselves.</p>

<p>I&rsquo;m a senior in high school, and the application process for college is long and nerve-wracking. At first, senior year felt like a weight was lifted off my shoulders because it was my very last year of high school. I soon figured out that wasn&rsquo;t the case. Deadlines, SAT&rsquo;s, essays and so much more started appearing rapidly in my life. Just the thought of college stressed me out, and in all honesty, I felt like giving up and maybe putting college off for a year.</p>
</p>
<p><img decoding="async" width="400" height="291" data-attachment-id="3868" data-permalink="https://www.holinesstabernaclecogic.org/2014/05/01/college-application-process-may-2k14-youth-expression/college_130c/" data-orig-file="https://www.holinesstabernaclecogic.org/wp-content/uploads/image/college_130c.jpg" data-orig-size="400,291" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;}" data-image-title="college_130c" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-medium-file="https://www.holinesstabernaclecogic.org/wp-content/uploads/image/college_130c-300x218.jpg" data-large-file="https://www.holinesstabernaclecogic.org/wp-content/uploads/image/college_130c.jpg" alt="College Application Process" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-3868" src="http://www.holinesstabernaclecogic.org/wp-content/uploads/image//college_130c.jpg" style="width: 300px; height: 218px; border-width: 0px; border-style: solid; margin: 5px; float: right;" srcset="https://www.holinesstabernaclecogic.org/wp-content/uploads/image/college_130c.jpg 400w, https://www.holinesstabernaclecogic.org/wp-content/uploads/image/college_130c-300x218.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px" />One day, my aunt decided that she wanted to go to the salon and get her hair done. That was not how I wanted to spend my Saturday. After some time had passed, however, my aunt was ready to go and I decided to accompany her. Upon arriving to the salon, after a lengthy commute, there was a long wait and barely a place to sit down. There was one open seat next to a lady in a bright green shirt that didn&rsquo;t look very welcoming, but I&rsquo;ve learned that you should never judge a book by its cover.</p>
<p>Before I even sat down, the lady had already started a conversation with me. Not too long after, the topic of school arose. The school that had sparked my interest for a while was Virginia Tech. When I told Mrs. Winbush that I wanted to go to Virginia Tech her smile stretched from ear to ear. She shouted, &ldquo;I&rsquo;m a Virginia tech Alum!&rdquo; By the end of both our visits, we had exchanged emails; Mrs. Winbush gave me a whole list of scholarships to apply to and she fully encouraged me to begin looking at not only Virginia Tech, but other colleges as well.</p>
<p>I know it wasn&rsquo;t by chance that I ran into this lady. God brought someone into my life to encourage me and to show me that I was being narrow-minded which definitely hindered me from going a step further in my college application process. I&rsquo;ve been praying about college for a while &ndash; and what used to be a nerve wrecking process is now somewhat exciting to me. Every time I reach a stumbling block with my applications, God puts someone or something in my life to help me, encourage me and push me because I am definitely going to college.</p>

<p>The bus arrived two minutes before class started. I was at the very back of the bus. In an attempt to not be late for class, I rushed to the back end of the school to get into the door closest to my class. <a href="http://www.holinesstabernaclecogic.org/wp-content/uploads/image//neverleaveus.jpg"><img decoding="async" width="575" height="322" data-attachment-id="3865" data-permalink="https://www.holinesstabernaclecogic.org/2014/04/01/god-will-never-leave-you-april-2k14-youth-expression/neverleaveus/" data-orig-file="https://www.holinesstabernaclecogic.org/wp-content/uploads/image/neverleaveus.jpg" data-orig-size="575,322" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;}" data-image-title="neverleaveus" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-medium-file="https://www.holinesstabernaclecogic.org/wp-content/uploads/image/neverleaveus-300x168.jpg" data-large-file="https://www.holinesstabernaclecogic.org/wp-content/uploads/image/neverleaveus.jpg" alt="God Will Never Leave Us" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-3865" src="http://www.holinesstabernaclecogic.org/wp-content/uploads/image//neverleaveus.jpg" style="width: 300px; height: 168px; border-width: 0px; border-style: solid; margin: 5px; float: right;" srcset="https://www.holinesstabernaclecogic.org/wp-content/uploads/image/neverleaveus.jpg 575w, https://www.holinesstabernaclecogic.org/wp-content/uploads/image/neverleaveus-300x168.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 575px) 100vw, 575px" /></a>Halfway there I had one more minute to get to homeroom, so my rush changed into a foot race against time. I got to the steps before the door and was head first on the concrete before I even had a chance to comprehend that I slipped on ice that lied on the steps.</p>
<p>I know for a fact that my face was the first of my body to hit the ground. I know for a fact that I should have suffered greater damage than a minor head and lip injury. The risk of major head trauma, literally grinding my face on the cement, and having my teeth knocked into my throat where I could choke was extremely high. Even my nurse said that by the type and location of the scars that I was very lucky.</p>
<p>My mom said otherwise. She told me that it had nothing to do with luck, but the love of God and His mercy softened the fall.</p>
